SUCCESS CASE
Compose a Modular Healthcare Platform for Hospitals
BIP Group is one of the fastest-growing consultancy organizations worldwide, with more than 4,500+ people globally. The Life Sciences division works to implement solutions to redesign the healthcare system by bringing market expertise, process improvement, and digital technologies implementation.
They found Mia-Care the perfect partner to build a white-labeled scalable and modular healthcare platform that can be provided to several hospitals and care facilities to overtake process pain points through digital services.

The Need
The main goal was to support hospitals and healthcare facilities to overtake significant process pain points that were lowering operational efficiency and care quality. To achieve it, BIP needed to project and develop a cloud-native modular healthcare platform easy-to-custom based on the inefficiencies related to weak administrative and clinical workflows. Moreover, patient experience was paramount by providing a Patient Portal enriched with bespoke functionalities that address issues related to chronic or acute pathologies.
The first care structure involved in the project is a University Hospital. The center specializes in ophthalmology pathologies and aims to simplify care pathways and improve access to care by enhancing communication between patients and doctors.
The Challenge
The healthcare platform built as a white-label product should be modular and based on a Composable Architecture tailored to specific hospital needs. The technology on which the solution relies has to enable:
- Easy and fast configuration of roles and profiles for different uses;
- Simple UX/UI customization based on the hospital’s needs;
- Improved accessibility for fragile patients;
- Rapid integration with heterogeneous IT legacy systems;
- Secure sharing of personal and clinical information based on GDPR;
- Orchestration of different modules to be activated on-demand.
The Solution
Leveraging the Mia-Care cloud-native software suite, BIP developed a white-label healthcare platform to quickly respond to strategic and operational uncertainties caused by traditional operational inefficiencies, such as increased visit time or difficulty booking a medical exam. The platform has three main accesses: patients, admins, and doctor specialists.
All these stakeholders can have complete visibility on dedicated sections about their roles. For instance, patients can book visits and see personal medical history, while admins can monitor patient access, waiting time, and onboarding time.
Patient Portal
The university hospital relies on the healthcare platform developed by BIP to support fragile patients in following their care journeys. The hospital wants to equip patients with digital tools to support doctor specialists in assessing patients’ current health conditions with ease, spontaneity, and precision. Finally, visually impaired patients can enjoy a personal portal fully accessible to manage their therapies and care paths and interact with doctors.
Admin Portal
From the other perspective, the administrative and clinical staff needed an operative cockpit to manage, help, and support patients in their therapy pathways. Through this dashboard, they can manage and monitor the high volume of patients involved in therapy pathways by having a clear view of all the information related to single patients.
The Impact
The modern healthcare platform created to fulfill needs coming from ophthalmologic pathologies had a relevant impact on hospital daily activities:
- Doctor-patient interactions: gather and share administrative and clinical information quickly and securely to improve care service quality.
- Real-time data interoperability: patients and doctors can share data on current health status and intervene in real-time. Patients can also upload external exams to integrate the hospital EHR.
- Workflow organization: manage new patients and follow-ups through patient clusterization to perfect the scheduling of many activities involved in a stepwise patient journey.
- Cutting-edge UX and Patient Empowerment: create a perfect user experience to allow fragile patients to register and access their personal information rapidly, securely, and efficiently.
- Privacy and Compliance: the platform was developed with the highest GDPR standards and guarantees the privacy and security of sensitive information.
Why Mia-Care
Different ways are suitable to project, develop, and deliver new digital healthcare platforms. Whether adopting a traditional SaaS might turn into a lack of control on customization, and difficulty in scaling fast, starting from scratch could lead to long lifecycle development and a high risk for the final result. Finally, as cloud-native technologies arise, it is hard to find strategic resources to add to new digital projects since the market is highly demanding.
BIP found Mia-Care as the perfect strategic partner to maintain high control of the digital platform by leveraging fast developments thanks to modular ready-to-use applications. Moreover, since Mia-Care relies on scalable technology, it would be easy, in the future, to enrich the current platform by integrating new services or third-party applications.
EASE OF USE AND ACCESSIBILITY
The application design focuses on finding a way to empower fragile patients with ophthalmologic issues. For this reason, the platform integrated a screen reader function (a form of assistive technology that renders text and image content as speech) and a special view mode for photosensitive patients. Furthermore, people can receive personalized informative communications and appointment reminders to reduce the no-show rate.
MODULAR APPROACH
The great flexibility provided by a modular approach enables scaling up quickly by configuring new services organized in modules or in-scope applications that can be turned on and off on‑demand, according to specific patient journeys. The custom Back Office has improved daily operations by efficiently managing administrative workflows and clustering patients according to specific characteristics.
SECURITY COMPLIANCE
Mia-Care technology is compliant by design and respects the requirements requested by GDPR and ENISA. Once data is collected and stored, it can be encrypted and decrypted as required, according to the consensus provided by the final patients. Finally, great emphasis was on data segregation and the timely management of users and permissions to enable healthcare professionals to be quicker in managing patient pathways.
FULL SCALABILITY
The design of scalable Development and Production environments where different ready‑to‑use modules are turned on with freedom and rapidity allows the platform to be easily replicated in different healthcare companies for tailored needs. Lastly, Mia-Care’s high integration capacity makes it possible to add new services in the long term (e.g., integration of FHIR data models or teleconsultation services).
Partnering with Mia-Care is a great opportunity to bring digital transformation within Italian hospitals and clinics. Thanks to cloud-native technology and a modular approach, we enabled access improvement, patient empowerment, and care quality increase.
